ECU’s commitment to excellence has earned it recognition as a Center of Excellence (COE) for ultrasound training in Africa by the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) in 2007. Collaborations with esteemed institutions such as the University of Vermont, Washington University, Makerere University, Kampala Imaging Center (KIC), and Thomas Jefferson University attest to ECU’s global reach and impact. The partnership with the Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (JUREI) of Thomas Jefferson University in the USA served as a pivotal event in ECU’s founding.
MISSION
At the heart of ECU’s endeavors lies its mission: “To provide outstanding Christ-Centered Health Care Training and Services.” This mission underscores the institute’s commitment to excellence, compassion, and service in the field of healthcare education.
Founded by visionary radiologists Prof. Henry Stuart Kasozi, Prof. Michael Grace Kawooya, and Prof. Elsie Kiguli-Malwadde, ECU traces its origins to the mentorship of Prof. Barry Goldberg at JUREI. Under his guidance, ECU’s founders received training in ultrasound, laying the groundwork for the institute’s inception. In 2002, ECU was officially launched by His Excellency Yoweri Kagutta Museveni, the President of The Republic of Uganda. The institute’s inauguration marked a significant milestone in the landscape of healthcare education in Uganda.
